Pastels will be the go-to color palette for spring. And it’s not just the runways displaying the shift in colors: top influencers and street fashion sport cheery, sorbet-like hues, too. Often associated with spring because of their association with Easter, pastels also have a strong connection with cultural movements such as Baroque and Rococo styles in the 17th and 18th centuries. During this time, the popular taste of art applied to clothing as well — pastel fashion was the ultimate favorite. 2021 resurrected this trend, showcasing a distinct shift away from the attractive glare of neon popular in 2020. Pastels suit a wide variety of skin tones. Choose from a button-up in cool baby blue or a sheer patterned tank in soft pink. Clothing pieces with these colorful hues elevate your overall aesthetic and will remain one of the chicest styles for seasons to come.
In 2020 we saw the rise of cottage-core styles. Underlying this trend is the dainty motif — from the overall silhouette down to the intricate floral print. Riding this wave, Vogue has hailed dainty dresses as the newest fashion craze, and as a trend emulating the popular style of the 1940s. Avoid the hassle of finding the right pants or blouse to pull an outfit together! Dainty dresses can be dressed up or down for an effortlessly chic look. Or opt for dresses with pastel colors or floral designs to pull off a flirty, feminine aesthetic.
Blazers, which are an example of a trend resurrected from the 1980s, is the new springtime coat of choice. They are fashionable and versatile, and exude such class and confidence! Pair a neutral or monochrome blazer with a minidress and rain boots for an ultra-modern look. Create an attractive silhouette with shoulder-padded blazers to cinch in your waist and elongate your legs. Rock this look with coordinating trousers. Or go for Kim Kardashian’s iconic blazer look with biker shorts. The bottom line is that blazers are a wardrobe-essential; there are a variety of ways to pull this here-to-stay trend off, no matter what your personal style may be.
With the revival of Y2K clothing, miniskirts are making a comeback as a staple spring piece. Skirts were already a must-have during the fall and winter 2020 season, the outfit-of-choice being skirts paired with large pull-over sweaters. Now, this trend is being brought into this coming spring! This versatile piece can be worn with knee-high boots or leggings on a chilly day, or worn on its own for a day trip to the beach. Whether you choose to pair them with colorful crop tops or waffle-knit cardigans, or outerwear such as slouchy sweaters or windbreakers, they will add a feminine flair and elevate your entire look.
